As others have said, the Nex will do better in low light with a fast enough lens. At the moment, the only really fast native lens for the Nex is the $1000 Zeiss 24mm f1.8, but good luck finding one. If you're just comparing the Nex 5n with its kit zoom lens (the 18-55 it generally sells with), I'd strongly recommend the Fuji X10 instead. And if small size matters to you. The 5n has a small body but both the kit zoom and the Zeiss 24mm are relatively large lenses. Only the 16mm is really in scale...

Which would make a better Gift?
Hello im looking into getting my Father a Lens for Fathers Day for a Nikon D40x that i brought Him for Xmas last year,
I have around £40-100 to spent on a lens so its quite difficult to find one in that price range.
I think the Sigma zoom would be your best bet as long as it is a Nikon mount . The lens can extend the range of pictures your dad can get. The 50mm lens would not be much help as he already has that focal length .

I have a d40 and the lens that comes with it. I recently got a 55-200mm and absolutely LOVE it. HSM means it will fit Nikons (including the d40x). I'd recommend the 55-200, it compliments his current lens well and is a good zoom lens. Read More »

Its a turning type, unlike my 3rd party one and my Manfrotto tripod which are like flip locks. Its like a head higher than I am, its like me standing tiptoed with the flash balancing on my finger tip. I got my light stands recently and I've gotta say, they're pretty light. Though the only thing I really hate about my light stand is the way to lock and unlock, I'm pretty much satisfied with it overall. I don't really know how to explain, but no big deal, not like I'll be constant changing the height of my light stands once they're up and ready. Place beside my 3rd party light stand, its quite a monster but I guess its quiet essential for balancing. Its pretty light even with all 3 in one hand and the foot opens up really wide....
